Global Partners LP supports Lark Street Corridor with donation

Funds will be put toward a beautification project to be determined by Lark Street BID Board of Directors

ALBANY, N.Y. (Jan. 30, 2018) — Global Partners LP (“Global”) has made a donation of $3,000 to the Lark Street Business Improvement District (“BID”) to support street beautification for the BID Corridor. The funds were donated in December of 2017, and the BID’s Board of Directors is currently deliberating on a number of possible projects to commit the funding toward.

“We extend our warmest thanks to Global for their generous donation and for supporting the BID’s initiatives to create and sustain a beautiful and welcoming environment for the visitors, residents, and businesses in our corridor,” said Lark Street BID Chairman Daniel Atkins.

Street beautification is one of the BID’s core neighborhood services. Over the holidays, the BID worked with the City of Albany to install handmade bows and string lights on over 50 lamp posts and trees in the BID Corridor. The BID also distributed white string lights to businesses as part of its annual “Light Up Lark” Campaign, and ran a storefront decorating contest for the BID Corridor. In 2017 the BID installed new decorative street banners, designed by local artist, Mitchell Biernacki. A grant from Capitalize Albany Corporation (CAC) under the “Amplify Albany” program helped fund production of the banners.

“With this donation, Global Partners has shown an exemplary commitment to the small businesses and neighborhoods which make up the back-bone of our city. We express our sincere thanks to Global Partners for their generosity and desire to positively impact local communities,” said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.

This follows a larger donation of $6,000 made by Global to support relief efforts in the Lark Street/Center Square neighborhood in the wake of a fire that destroyed or caused severe damage to multiple properties on Madison Avenue in July of 2017.

“It’s wonderful to see a company like Global Partners continuing to invest in the Lark Street area, which is home to so many small businesses. Street beautification initiatives help promote this area as a destination for enjoyment and urban life, and contribute to the growth and overall well-being of our neighborhoods and commercial corridors. I commend Global Partners for their act of stewardship, on behalf of the businesses and residents of the Lark Street neighborhood,” said 6th Ward Albany Common Council Member Richard Conti.
