Arts & Culture on Lark
Celebrating the Arts of Albany! 1st Friday, presented by the Upstate Artists Guild, aims to introduce a wider audience to the unique vitality of the artists and venues of Albany. 1st Friday promotes interest in the arts by making it accessible and strengthening the arts community in Albany. We invite artists, groups, galleries and businesses to be a part of this cultural event. We also welcome sponsorship from local businesses and patrons of the arts!
From art and food to live entertainment, the best of Albany is showcased at 1st Friday. Sponsors and participants offer 1st Friday visitors a chance to explore, enjoy, and support local businesses and the local arts community.
Visitors are able to enjoy a diverse range of activities which include:
- gallery and exhibit openings,
- free admission to museums,
- live music,
- discounts, and specials at area boutiques, restaurants, bars and clubs.
Art on Lark (annual June street festival)
Art on Lark is an annual summer street festival that celebrates local art and artisans in Albany, New York. One day each year in June, the city’s historic Lark Street is shut down to traffic and transformed by artists’ displays including painters, photographers, jewelers, sculptors, ceramicists, live performances, and music. Shoppers can enjoy all the regular businesses Lark Street has to offer including cafés, restaurants, gift shops and bars, as well as over 50 local artists popping up for the day with their individual booths.
With an average yearly attendance of almost 20,000 people, Art on Lark is the second largest street festival in upstate New York and has been voted the Capital Region’s Best Arts Event by both the Times Union Readers Poll and Metroland.
